Maddie Rabin, LCSW

Hi, I’m Maddie and I’m a Level 1 trained Internal Family Systems therapist based in Philadelphia, PA. My work with clients often relates to anxiety, high sensitivity, trauma, sex & relationship issues, body image, and life transitions, and I work with adults in both individual therapy and group therapy settings. I primarily use Somatic IFS therapy, but I like to incorporate elements of mindfulness, other somatic therapies, psychodynamic therapy, and expressive arts therapy into my practice.

I value respect, consent, honesty and humor, and make these the central tenants of my work with clients. I identify as queer and enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community. I was raised Jewish and that is the foundation of my spiritual and cultural life, but in adulthood I have found deep healing and community in meditation and Buddhist spaces as well.

Outside of being a therapist, I am a performance artist, musician, and dancer and love the expansion and insight that creativity can cultivate and bring to healing. As an artist and community organizer, I’m actively part of the Yiddish community in Philly and love spending time getting other artists and organizers together to sing songs, share research, and cross-pollinate ideas for new Yiddish art.

Before becoming a therapist I worked in food service, graphic design, and on various farms in Vermont, New Orleans, and Northern California. I came to therapy after trying a lot of things, and though my life is much more grounded these days, my path is still eclectic and filled with possibility. I love working with people who are still working it out, trying new things, and thinking about paths that are outside the norm.

My Perspective

My approach is inspired by the many traditions, teachers, and mentors that have shaped my own life and learning. Some of those traditions are: Feminism, Anti-racism, Anti-capitalism, Judaism, and Buddhism. I see therapy as sacred space, and believe all beings should be free. I enjoy working with people who are searching for deeper meaning through insight and spiritual practice and want this work to be in service of liberation for you and for all beings everywhere.

I value each person I work with as an expert in their own experience and am trans/queer affirming, trauma informed, sex-positive, pro-SW, and body neutral/Health at Every Size-aligned.

“Revolutionary Letter #4”

Left to themselves people

grow their hair.

Left to themselves they

take off their shoes.

Left to themselves they make love

sleep easily

share blankets, dope & children

they are not lazy or afraid

they plant seeds, they smile, they

speak to one another. The word

coming into its own: touch of love

on the brain, the ear.

We return with the sea, the tides

We return as often as leaves, as numerous

as grass, gentle, insistent, we remember

the way,

our babes toddle barefoot thru the cities of the universe.”
